a new species of Mucorales (Mucoromycota) isolated from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, with an identification
key for the genus. – Sydowia 73: 61–68.

During a survey of Mucorales in soil from an Atlantic Forest area located in Alagoas, Brazil, a specimen of Gongronella was
isolated and characterized based on morphological, physiological, and molecular data (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 and LSU rDNA sequences).
The specimen produces sporangiophores with long or short branches originating at a short or long distance from the sporangia.
The branches commonly bear a sterile sporangium, which may form a new sporangiophore. The distance between the sporangium
and the next lateral branch may be so reduced that some sporangia seem to be sessile. Sporangia are globose, the columellae
mostly hemispherical, and most sporangiospores are bean-shaped while some are irregular. The new species grew better at
25 °C on PDA with no development at 10 and 35 °C. An identification key for the species of Gongronella is provided.
