Univ.-Doz. Dr. Manfred Gailhofer (6.1.1936–3.7.2009) studied biology and chemistry at the university of Graz in the years 1960–1969. From 1965 on he was employed as a scientific aid at the institute of plant physiology and from 1969 on as a university assistant. He achieved his habilitation in 1983. His main areas of research were cell physiology and ultrastructure research where he published 31 scientific papers. He was also engaged in teaching. M. Gailhofer retired in 1996.
