Summary
The effects of different rhizosphere pH on the production rate of superoxide anion (O2–), the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT), the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA), ascorbic acid (AsA), and glutathione (GSH) in roots of a super-hybrid rice seedlings, Liang-You-Pei-Jiu (LYPJ), were studied. The results indicated that the roots of LYPJ seedlings under the pH 6.0 showed the lowest in the producing rate of O2– and MDA content, the strongest in activities of antioxidant enzymes, and the highest in contents of AsA and GSH. When the culture pH < or > 6.0, the production rate of O2–, and MDA content increased largely, whereas the activities of antioxidant enzymes, and the contents of AsA + GSH decreased significantly. These results showed that the LYPJ seedlings, cultivated in the rhizosphere pH 6.0, had an excellent quality and lay foundation for the growth and development of the super-hybrid rice in the later growth period.
