Josef Hayne was born on March 19, 1788 in Krainburg (Kranj), nowadays Slovenia, studied medicine in Vienna and was designated as professor of botany at the Joanneum in Graz, Styria, Austria, on March 9, 1832. He died on April 30, 1835.
