Dörfler’s statement that the wellknown Viennese zoologist Paul Kammerer (1880–1926) had owned a herbarium turned out to be untrue. The in-depth study of his family tree showed that the botanist Kammerer is not related to Paul Kammerer. The first name of the botanist is Peter, not Paul. Born Feb. 28th, 1844, as a son of a farmer in Kiens (Pustertal) in South Tyrol, he attended secondary school in Trient and begun in 1867 his studies of natural history in Innsbruck. After graduating as a teacher he was teaching assistant (“supplent”) at the secondary school in Trient and later on, beginning with the school year 1872/73 until his early death on Oct. 29th, 1886, he was teacher of natural history at the ,,Deutsche Staats- und Oberrealschule“ in Triest. As a student of A. J. Kerner he begun to compile a herbarium. Because of his assistance of “Flora exsiccata Austro-Hungarica” his her­barium-sheets had a large extension. His herbarium, covering 4000 specimens, was acquired by the Museo Civico of Triest (TSM) where it is currently not traceable.
