193–197.

Ganoderma tropicum is a highly nutritional and a popular medicinal mushroom in Pakistan with profound antioxidant properties. Total triterpenes (TT) were extracted by submerge technique. Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA), Glucose Peptone Agar (GPA) and Mushroom Complete Medium (MCM) were used to optimize culture conditions, enhancing maximum TT extraction. The extracted triterpene Ganotropic acid has significant ability to scavenge DPPH+ free radicals. Different concentrations were used to evaluate the maximum TT scavenging ability against DPPH+. An aliquot of 100 µg/ml from MCM showed 80.05 % maximum antioxidant activity, PDA 78.05 % and GPA 72.11 %. TT capacity to scavenge the free radicals improves the body’s antioxidant defense systems. The triterpene Ganotropic acid from Ganoderma tropicum can be used as a natural antioxidant.
