To understand the biological battlefront created by the host pathogen interaction, we have examined the patterns of expression of effector proteins (SIX1, SIX6, INF2A and INF2B) from the fungal pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc1) in two contrasting banana genotypes after infection. We observed that in the tolerant genotype “Calcutta-4” there is a decreased or no change in the pattern of effectors expression during disease progression (3 dpi and 10 dpi), indicating that host environment alters the expression of effector proteins. The results help to understand the molecular interaction between host, both in compatible (susceptible) and incompatible (tolerant) environment, and the pathogen (Foc1) during disease progression, and thus help to understand the nature of tolerance mechanism operating in banana.
